Alaska Airlines has banned a Florida-based evangelist from flying with the carrier after she stood up and delivered an unsolicited religious sermon to fellow passengers before departure.
According to PYOK and Aviation24, Whitney Lynn, an Orlando-based Christian preacher with a following on TikTok, addressed the cabin during a delay aboard flight AS708 from Orlando to San Diego. The flight was being operated by a Boeing 737 MAX 9 registered N709AL. Before the aircraft pushed back from the gate, Lynn reportedly rose from her seat and delivered a mid-aisle message to those seated around her, prompting the airline to bar her from future travel.
It is not the first time the preacher has drawn attention aboard an aircraft. Reports note that she previously went viral in January 2025 after issuing a "prophetic warning" about Los Angeles shortly after her flight touched down at LAX, footage of which circulated widely on social media. Her latest episode has again put the spotlight on the boundary between personal expression and the rules that govern passenger conduct on a commercial flight.
Airlines give their cabin crews broad authority to maintain order, and passengers are required to comply with crew instructions at all times. Standing up to address a full cabin during boarding or a ground delay — particularly before the aircraft has pushed back, when crews are focused on preparing the cabin for departure — can quickly be treated as disruptive behaviour, regardless of the content of the message. Carriers routinely reserve the right to refuse future carriage to travellers deemed to have breached those expectations.
There is a certain irony in the incident unfolding on Alaska. Until a little over a decade ago, the airline was known for handing out "inspirational" cards quoting verses from the Book of Psalms to first-class passengers during meal service, a long-running tradition it eventually retired. The carrier that once distributed scripture at the seat has now barred a passenger for delivering her own religious message uninvited.
For most travellers, the episode is a reminder that a commercial cabin is a shared, tightly regulated space. Crews must balance the comfort and safety of everyone on board, and behaviour that would be unremarkable on the ground can take on a very different character in the confined environment of an aircraft awaiting departure.
Alaska has not indicated whether the ban is permanent, and the airline typically does not comment on individual customer cases in detail. What is clear is that the carrier moved to enforce its conduct policy in a case that, thanks to the passenger's own social-media presence, quickly became a talking point well beyond the cabin of a single San Diego-bound flight.
