Emirates SkyCargo Passes One Million Pharma Shipments

Emirates SkyCargo says it has carried more than one million pharmaceutical shipments through Dubai since introducing its dedicated Pharma service in September 2016. The cumulative total represents over 800,000 tonnes, connecting manufacturing and healthcare markets across six continents. The carrier published the milestone on October 1 as the specialist operation entered its second decade.

The scale is sustained by weekly movements averaging 1.5 million to two million kilograms. Across Dubai International and Dubai World Central, Emirates reports more than 16,500 square metres of Good Distribution Practice-certified handling and storage space. More than 55 refrigerated dollies help protect shipments during transfers between terminals and aircraft.

The anniversary announcement also identifies a network of 43 pharma stations reached in 2025, alongside selected corridors designed for products requiring temperatures between two and eight degrees Celsius. It says the business expanded its thermal-blanket supplier pool during 2026. These are company-reported operating measures, rather than a new route launch or an independently audited assessment of service quality.

Where the cargo originates

Earlier regional disclosures help explain the flows behind that global total. In a UK export update published in August, Emirates said it had transported more than 1,600 tonnes of pharmaceuticals from Britain during the first half of 2026. It separately reported over 26 tonnes of clinical-trial medications. Newcastle was identified as a gateway serving the life-sciences manufacturing base in northeast England.

The same update described cargo access on more than 140 weekly flights from eight UK airports. Its wider export figures covered multiple industries, so those totals should not be read as pharmaceutical volumes. For medicine shippers, the significance is the combination of regional airport access, Dubai transfers and onward international capacity, rather than reliance on a single British departure point.

India is another substantial source market. Emirates' September network briefing reported an average of more than 650 tonnes of pharmaceutical exports each week from India to destinations through Dubai. That disclosure placed the traffic within a broader operation offering over 3,000 tonnes of weekly cargo capacity across nine Indian gateways.

The carrier also reported seven weekly freighter flights to India, complemented by cargo space on 167 weekly passenger services. New freighter points identified in that briefing included Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad. Together, the figures illustrate why specialised handling needs to work across both dedicated cargo aircraft and passenger-aircraft bellyholds. The earlier India and UK updates provide context for the October milestone; they are not additional announcements made this week.

Aircraft are part of the chain

Emirates' July account of its first Boeing 777-300ERSF conversion described changes to environmental controls that regulate airflow, ventilation and temperature for sensitive freight. The converted aircraft joined a fleet that also includes factory-built Boeing 777 freighters. Cargo loading equipment, reinforced flooring and monitoring systems were among the other modifications documented.

That technical background puts the anniversary in perspective: capacity in the air is only one component of a pharmaceutical transport service. Storage, ramp transfers and aircraft conditions must be coordinated along the journey. The newly reported shipment total measures the accumulated scale of Emirates' operation over ten years, while its regional and fleet disclosures show the different infrastructure supporting it.
