Wizz Air Expands Winter 2026 Network

Wizz Air has filed a long list of network additions for the 2026/27 northern winter season, with new services spread between 15 September 2026 and 27 March 2027. The schedule filing, published on 18 July 2026, pulls together weeks of piecemeal announcements into a single picture of where the Hungarian low-cost carrier is putting its capacity this winter.

Two themes were already known before the filing landed: expanded flying to Egypt, and new bases at Madrid and Valencia that bring with them Wizz Air's first domestic services in Spain. The filing fleshes out the rest, and the geographic spread is wide — Switzerland, Slovakia, Romania, Moldova, Hungary, Poland, Italy and Spain all pick up additions.

Sicily is one of the clearer winners. From Catania, Wizz Air will add Alicante from 15 December 2026 at three weekly, Porto from 27 October at two weekly, and Valencia from 14 December at four weekly. The most substantial of the group is Catania–Rome Fiumicino from 14 December at three daily, a domestic trunk route the airline last served until November 2022.

In Spain, the new bases translate into domestic and near-international flying that Wizz Air has not previously operated. Bilbao gains Malaga from 14 December 2026 at one daily and Santiago de Compostela from 2 November at four weekly, both on the Airbus A321neo and both operated by Wizz Air Malta.

Central and eastern Europe supply much of the rest. Bratislava adds Agadir from 27 October at two weekly, Baku from 28 October at two weekly, and Hurghada from 26 October at two weekly. Budapest picks up Marsa Alam from 27 October at two weekly and Oslo from 25 October at four weekly. Bucharest gains Almeria from 26 October at three weekly, while Cluj resumes Abu Dhabi from 27 October at two weekly, a route it last served until March 2025.

Moldova is treated as a growth market rather than a maintenance one: Chisinau adds Alicante from 25 October at four weekly and Frankfurt-Hahn from the same date at two weekly. Elsewhere, Basel/Mulhouse gains Poznan from 21 September at three weekly, trimming to two weekly from 26 October with a pause between late December and mid-January, plus Varna from 27 October at two weekly. Gdansk adds Agadir from 27 October at two weekly.

Almost all of the new flying is scheduled on the Airbus A321neo, which has become the backbone of Wizz Air's fleet plan and the reason so many of these routes work commercially. The type's seat count and range let the airline put low unit costs onto thin leisure markets and medium-haul sun routes that would be marginal on a smaller narrow-body. A number of the services are flown by Wizz Air Malta or Wizz Air UK rather than the Hungarian parent, reflecting the group's multi-AOC structure.

The pattern running through the filing is winter sun and diaspora traffic: Morocco, Egypt, the Canaries-adjacent Spanish market and the Gulf, fed from central and eastern European cities where Wizz Air already has aircraft and crew in place. It is an unglamorous, incremental way to grow, and it has been the airline's default strategy for years.
