Air France is using its September Caribbean winter briefing to add a Central American spoke and upgrade a long-haul island gateway at the same time. Air Journal reported on September 12 that the SkyTeam carrier will open seasonal Pointe-à-Pitre–Panama City service on December 11, 2026, with two weekly Airbus A320 flights through March 5, 2027, while separately deploying the Airbus A350-900 on Paris Charles de Gaulle–Saint-Martin Princess Juliana from February 1, 2027, at up to 14 weekly frequencies.
The Panama City launch is the headline regional add. Guadeloupe departures are planned on Mondays and Fridays, with returns from Panama on Tuesdays and Saturdays, timed so Fort-de-France and Cayenne passengers can connect the same day over Pointe-à-Pitre. Air France frames the route as a door into Copa Airlines’ Central and South American network, naming connection markets that include Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Peru, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, the Dominican Republic, Cuba and Guyana. That is a partner-hub story as much as a Guadeloupe–Panama local market.
Equipment on the new spoke stays inside the airline’s Caribbean Regional Network: two dedicated A320s already stitch the French Antilles, French Guiana and selected mainland American cities. Keeping Panama on A320 metal matches the Miami pattern Air France already flies from the same pool, rather than importing a widebody for a short international sector. The airline also says it will thicken historic Guadeloupe–Martinique and Guadeloupe–Martinique–Guyane banks for winter peaks, including extra morning Cayenne departures on Mondays and Fridays for same-day links.
The Saint-Martin chapter is the long-haul half of the same briefing. From February 1, 2027, Air France plans to put the A350-900 on CDG–SXM with as many as 14 weekly flights. Regional director Jean-Noël Rault, quoted via local Saint-Martin coverage carried into the Air Journal report, cast the swap as a product step-up after earlier 747, Concorde, A340 and A330 chapters on the island, citing lower CO₂ and noise versus older types and a more premium 3-3-3 economy layout with nine-abreast seating. Business mini-suites with sliding doors, wider Premium seats and 4K screens are part of the cabin pitch for the A350 deployment.
Competition context matters on SXM. Air Caraïbes is separately planning to resume Paris Orly–Saint-Martin on October 15, 2026, twice weekly on A350 metal, so Air France’s February A350 entry arrives into an island already tasting twin-aisle French competition. On the regional side, Panama City sits beside earlier Pointe-à-Pitre experiments toward Belém, Fortaleza and Miami, concentrating the A320 map on American mainland and Brazilian leisure doors rather than every prior Canada idea.
For passengers, the verified winter package is concrete: a twice-weekly A320 Panama City launch from December 11, denser inter-island A320 banks, and an A350-900 product upgrade on CDG–Saint-Martin from February 1 at up to 14 weekly flights. Network planners will also watch whether the Monday/Friday Panama bank holds through the full March 5, 2027 seasonal close or later softens if Copa connecting loads thin. The same scrutiny applies to the 14-weekly A350 Saint-Martin plan once winter 2026/27 inventory is fully open. Air France’s Caribbean Regional Network remains a two-A320 operation linking Pointe-à-Pitre, Fort-de-France and Cayenne with selected American points. Adding Panama City extends that map without changing the fleet story, while the A350 on Saint-Martin is the first major long-haul cabin refresh called out for that island in the winter briefing.
