Austrian Cuts Vienna-Ohrid Season Short This Year

Austrian Airlines will end its seasonal Vienna–Ohrid flights several weeks early and thin the last weeks of the season, EX-YU Aviation News reported on 1 September 2026. The Lufthansa Group carrier now plans to close the route on 27 September 2026 instead of 18 October 2026. From 17 September until that final service, flights will run once per week, down from twice weekly. The 1 September note does not publish a reason beyond the schedule change itself.

The same outlet had already recorded a delayed start: Austrian postponed the launch from 17 May to 21 June 2026. A 22 June EX-YU report on the inaugural said the service would operate twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays with Airbus A320 aircraft through 18 October, and that the first flight from Vienna carried 154 passengers. The 1 September cut does not name a different type. This article therefore treats the A320 as the type EX-YU attached to the pairing at inauguration, not as a newly filed 27 September equipment change. The A320 is a twin-engine Airbus narrowbody with wingtip fences; it is not an A321 and not an Embraer.

Ohrid is in North Macedonia. Austrian became the third flag carrier at the airport alongside Air Serbia and Turkish Airlines, the June report said. Stefan Linhart of the Lufthansa Group, quoted then, tied the route to Austrian’s Skopje flying and to leisure demand around the lake. Nejat Kurt of TAV Macedonia spoke of about 5,000 inbound passengers as an airport-side expectation at launch. Those June remarks are historical colour on why the city pair exists; they are not traffic results for July or August, which the 1 September item does not give.

The 1 September note is a news flash, not a full timetable table. It does not list remaining flight numbers, clock times, or the weekday that survives after 17 September. This article does not fill those blanks from the May delay file or from the Thursday/Sunday pattern in June, because a once-weekly tail can sit on either day. Seat factors, fares, and winter 2026/27 plans are likewise unpublished in the cut story.

Austrian had already shortened the usable season once by sliding the start from May into late June. Ending on 27 September rather than 18 October removes the late-shoulder weeks that the original file still showed. Combined with the mid-September drop from two weekly to one, the city pair’s last month is a thinner product than the twice-weekly A320 pattern described at inauguration.

Any illustration with this story is an original scene of an Airbus A320 in Austrian colours, not a copy of the June inaugural photograph, and it is not a registration. It should not be read as proof that the 27 September closer is already airborne.

Travellers holding Vienna–Ohrid tickets after 17 September should re-check the operating day and the 27 September close. If a later Austrian file restores October dates or names a different type, that would be a new schedule read, not a contradiction of the 1 September EX-YU flash.
