Delta Adds Los Angeles–Monterey And Los Angeles–Philadelphia Flights In Latest LAX Expansion

Delta Air Lines is expanding again at Los Angeles International Airport, adding three new domestic routes and more frequencies on seven existing LAX services as it prepares what it calls its largest-ever Los Angeles schedule. The carrier said that with partners it expects more than 200 peak-day departures to nearly 70 destinations from LAX in summer 2027.

Two of the new routes restore Monterey, California, to the Delta map. Twice-daily Los Angeles–Monterey and daily Salt Lake City–Monterey flights begin on December 19, 2026, operated for Delta Connection by SkyWest Airlines with Embraer E175 aircraft. Delta last served Monterey from Los Angeles in 1999 and from Salt Lake City in 2008, according to reporting that cited Cirium schedule data and Delta’s own release.

The larger strategic addition is daily Los Angeles–Philadelphia service from June 7, 2027, on an Airbus A321neo. Philadelphia is a major American Airlines hub and transatlantic gateway; American currently operates the only nonstops on the LAX–PHL lane with multiple daily flights. Delta’s single daily A321neo will not match that frequency, but it closes a gap for Los Angeles-based Delta customers and SkyTeam connections at LAX.

Amy Martin, Delta’s vice president of network planning, framed the moves as part of a longer California commitment rather than one-off launches. “We’re continuing to invest in more ways for customers to experience everything California has to offer. With new service to Monterey from both Los Angeles and Salt Lake City, alongside our continued growth at LAX, we’re creating more opportunities for customers to connect to the places they want to go while building on our long-term commitment to Los Angeles and the West,” she said in Delta’s announcement.

Frequency increases accompany the new city pairs. From LAX, Delta plans to raise Boston to five daily, Raleigh–Durham to two daily, San Diego to five daily, Seattle to eight daily, Houston to three daily, Cincinnati to two daily, and San Antonio to three daily, with the staged dates running through spring and summer 2027 according to Delta’s newsroom briefing and trade coverage.

Los Angeles remains a contested U.S. gateway where Delta, American, and United all keep large operations without classic fortress-hub dominance. Delta also highlights premium seat share, its Sky Way campus linking Terminals 2 and 3, and Delta One ground products as part of the same LAX push. The Monterey flights give California Central Coast travelers hub connections via LAX and Salt Lake City ahead of major golf events next summer, while Philadelphia adds an East Coast business and leisure option that Delta previously lacked nonstop from Southern California.

Aircraft choice matches mission: E175s for the short Monterey hops and the A321neo for the 2,400-mile coast-to-coast sector. Schedules and aircraft types are as published by Delta and confirmed in Simple Flying and Airline Geeks coverage dated September 18, 2026; travelers should verify live inventory before booking peak summer 2027 dates.
