Emirates Resumes A380 On Osaka From September 2026

Emirates is scheduled to put the Airbus A380 back on Dubai–Osaka Kansai from 1 September 2026, replacing the Boeing 777-300ER on the daily pair, AeroRoutes reported on 31 August 2026 after reviewing the latest operational-aircraft filings. The site said the airline had not, in recent weeks, changed the equipment listed for flights on or after 1 September, so the superjumbo remains in the plan for the 1 September restart.

The filing shows EK316 leaving Dubai at 03:00 and arriving Kansai at 17:15 local, and EK317 leaving Kansai at 23:45 and arriving Dubai at 04:35 the next day. Both sectors are listed as daily A380s. AeroRoutes did not publish seat counts or cabin layouts for those flights, and this article does not infer a 489-seat or 517-seat layout that Emirates uses on other A380 routes. Equipment in a schedule file can still change after tickets are issued.

Osaka is one of several Emirates A380 markets that were pulled or delayed earlier in 2026 as the carrier reshaped long-haul flying around the war in Iran. Simple Flying had previously reported that Dubai–Kansai, along with Glasgow, Hong Kong, Perth and Prague, lost planned August superjumbo flying, and that a 1 September return was then the working assumption. The 31 August AeroRoutes check is the first fresh schedule read this week showing that Osaka’s A380 dates were left in place rather than slipped again.

Using the A380 instead of a 777-300ER raises capacity on a trunk Dubai–Japan route and restores a two-deck cabin. The 777-300ER that has covered the sector remains in Emirates’ widebody pool and can be put back if later filings move the type. AeroRoutes did not say how long the A380 is expected to stay on Kansai beyond the September listing it reviewed, and it did not compare Osaka with other Japan destinations such as Tokyo.

Earlier Simple Flying coverage of Emirates’ September A380 plan described a wider pattern of temporary 777 substitutions on other cities, including some European and Asian routes, while Osaka was still listed among the markets due to regain the type. That older reporting is context, not a 31 August filing. The only new fact treated as news here is that Osaka’s A380 restoration remains on the books for 1 September according to AeroRoutes.

Travellers booked on EK316 and EK317 around the restart should check the operating aircraft on their ticket. Emirates has revised A380 dates more than once in 2026, and Simple Flying had already warned that a September restart on several of the delayed routes could still move to October. AeroRoutes’ Osaka note is based on schedule databases, not an Emirates newsroom release. Further updates can still appear in OAG or Cirium Diio after 1 September.

The A380 is a double-deck, four-engine aircraft. Any illustration published with this story is an original scene of that type in Emirates colours, not a copy of a particular departure photograph. It should not be read as proof of a specific registration or of a 1 September departure already airborne.

Kansai is not Dubai’s only Japan destination, but AeroRoutes’ 31 August item is limited to this city pair and these two flight numbers. This article does not extend the A380 claim to Tokyo or to other Emirates Japan flights. The 777-300ER remains a common Emirates long-haul type; its removal from EK316/EK317 in the September file is a schedule fact, not a fleet retirement. If a later Cirium or OAG snapshot puts the 777 back on Osaka, that would be a new filing, not a contradiction of today’s AeroRoutes read.
