Flair Airlines will connect Edmonton and Saint John with nonstop flights for the first time next summer. The Canadian low-cost carrier announced on 15 October 2026 that twice-weekly service between Edmonton International Airport (YEG) and Saint John Airport (YSJ) in New Brunswick will start on Tuesday, 15 June 2027.
Flights will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and tickets went on sale the same day at flyflair.com. Flair is offering limited-time introductory one-way fares from CAD $199 in both directions.
A first nonstop between Alberta and southern New Brunswick
Flair describes the route as the "first-ever" nonstop commercial air service between the two cities. According to the airline, Saint John is one of Edmonton's largest Atlantic Canadian air travel markets, but most passengers today have to connect through Toronto. A direct link removes that connection and cuts total journey times for families, tourists and business travellers moving between Western and Atlantic Canada.
"Canada has so much to discover, and we want more Canadians to have the opportunity to experience it," said Len Corrado, Flair's chief executive. "We're proud to be the first airline to connect Edmonton and Saint John nonstop, bringing two great Canadian cities closer together. Whether it's visiting family, exploring somewhere new or making an important business connection, we're giving Canadians more opportunities to spend time in the places and with the people who matter most."
Saint John sees a tourism and business boost
The airport in Saint John welcomed the announcement as a significant win. "This is an exciting milestone for Saint John and our region," said Court Edeburn, president and CEO of Saint John Airport. "Direct access to Edmonton opens new opportunities for tourism, business and families travelling between Atlantic and Western Canada. We're delighted to welcome Flair and look forward to seeing the benefits this new connection brings to our communities."
Local politicians made a similar case. Saint John–Kennebecasis MP Wayne Long said better access to and from Saint John will help grow the region's visitor economy, strengthen business ties across the country and create new opportunities for local employers and entrepreneurs. "Better connectivity makes our region more competitive, more accessible and better positioned for future growth," Long said.
For a smaller airport such as Saint John, a nonstop to one of Alberta's two largest cities is the kind of service that is hard to win. Long-distance domestic routes from secondary airports often depend on a low-cost carrier being willing to take the risk on a thinner, seasonal market, which is exactly the niche Flair has tried to occupy.
How the route fits Flair's network
Flair is based in Edmonton, and YEG is one of the airline's core bases. Its network mixes domestic trunk routes with leisure flying to sun destinations such as Mexico and the Caribbean, and it has added routes such as Montreal–Puerto Vallarta and Toronto–Puerto Plata for the coming winter. A June start for Saint John points the other way: it is a summer domestic route aimed at the peak season for visits to Atlantic Canada.
Flair has not said which aircraft will fly the route. Its fleet is built around the Boeing 737 MAX 8, a single-aisle jet with more than enough range for a cross-country sector between Alberta and New Brunswick.
The twice-weekly pattern is modest, and it gives Flair room to test demand before committing more capacity. If the route performs, Saint John could become a template for the airline to link other Atlantic Canadian cities directly with its western bases instead of leaving those passengers to connect at the large hubs.
