JetBlue And United Launch Blue Sky Cash Bookings With Reciprocal Access To 7 New JFK Terminal 6 Slots Coming By 2027

JetBlue and United have unlocked cash and points bookings across both airlines' websites as their Blue Sky partnership enters its biggest phase yet, with seven daily JFK Terminal 6 slots arriving in 2027.

JetBlue and United have lit the fuse on the most consumer-facing phase of their Blue Sky partnership yet, with cash bookings across both carriers now live on JetBlue.com and United.com. Travelers can plug a route into either site and pull live inventory from the other airline, paying with cash, MileagePlus miles or TrueBlue points depending on where the search begins.

The launch this week marks the first time U.S. consumers can search one airline and check out with the other's fares as a single transaction, a setup that has historically required separate bookings or a travel agent. The two carriers said the integration spans most domestic routes, with international add-ons rolling out in phases.

From Loyalty Pilot To Full Network Stitch

Blue Sky began in October 2025 as a loyalty-only arrangement, allowing TrueBlue and MileagePlus members to earn and redeem points on either airline. That phase opened the door for low-friction award redemptions but stopped short of a true codeshare-like checkout. The cash-booking phase removes that limitation and exposes both carriers' inventory to each other's commercial pipelines, including United Vacations and JetBlue Vacations packages bundled with flights, hotels and soon cruises.

United also confirmed that JetBlue is providing access to up to seven daily roundtrip slots at JFK's new Terminal 6 starting as early as 2027. JFK has been off limits to United for mainline service since 2022, and the seven-slot allocation effectively reopens America's busiest international gateway for the Chicago-based carrier without requiring slot purchases or a regulatory fight.

Elite Reciprocity And Vacation Packages Coming Next

Reciprocal elite recognition is the next deliverable on the roadmap. Premier and Mosaic members on both sides are expected to start receiving priority boarding, preferred seating, same-day standby and same-day changes on partner flights later this spring. United also flagged that JetBlue Vacations will begin selling United-operated routes to Japan, Brazil, Italy and Greece, a leisure-heavy slate that fills holes in JetBlue's largely Americas-focused vacation business.

Industry watchers see the expanded Blue Sky framework as a way for two carriers to extract scale economics typically associated with mergers without triggering the antitrust scrutiny that derailed the JetBlue-Spirit and JetBlue-American partnerships. JetBlue gains access to United's global widebody network; United gains a credible East Coast leisure feeder and an immediate JFK reentry route.

For travelers, the immediate upside is simple: one search box, two airlines, and a shot at routings and award seats that previously required two separate transactions.
