Riyadh Air is keeping up its rapid-fire expansion, opening reservations on four new routes in little more than a week from its main hub at Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport (RUH). The Saudi Arabian start-up, which has built its network around the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, is pushing simultaneously into nearby South Asia and deeper into East Asia.
According to Simple Flying, two of the newly loaded corridors are on the shorter side, serving destinations in nearby Pakistan, while the other two carry the airline further east into Asia. The additions continue a pattern of near-weekly route announcements as the carrier scales its schedule during its debut year of operations.
The most concrete of the new additions is Bangkok. AeroRoutes reports that on August 6, 2026, Riyadh Air opened reservations for service between Riyadh and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, with the 787-9 scheduled to operate four weekly flights from September 2, 2026. The listed timetable has flight RX853 leaving Riyadh at 22:15 and arriving in Bangkok at 09:35 the following morning, while the return RX854 departs Bangkok at 16:55 and reaches Riyadh at 20:15.
For a carrier that only recently began flying, the pace of network growth is striking. Each new corridor extends the reach of a hub that Saudi Arabia is positioning as a gateway between Europe, Africa and Asia, part of a wider national push to turn Riyadh into a major connecting point for global traffic and tourism.
The Boeing 787-9 sits at the centre of that plan. The twin-engine Dreamliner offers the range to link Riyadh directly with secondary Asian and European cities, while its widebody cabin gives the airline the premium capacity it needs to compete with established Gulf rivals. Building the early network around a single, efficient long-haul type also simplifies crew training, maintenance and scheduling as the operation matures.
The South Asian additions are commercially logical. Pakistan and the broader subcontinent generate substantial labour, family-visit and business demand into the Gulf, and short-to-medium sectors let Riyadh Air build frequency and brand recognition quickly while its long-haul fleet continues to grow. Pushing deeper into East Asia, meanwhile, plants the airline in fast-growing leisure and trade markets well ahead of the wider intercontinental roll-out.
With reservations now open on the Bangkok service and three further corridors loaded, Riyadh Air's schedule is thickening month by month. If the current cadence holds, travellers can expect the map from King Khalid International to keep filling in through the remainder of 2026.
