Riyadh Air is heading to India. Saudi Arabia's new flag carrier has announced that it will launch daily direct flights between Riyadh and Mumbai starting August 4, 2026, with bookings opening on July 6. The route marks the airline's first destination in India and one of the newest additions to its rapidly growing map.
The daily service will be operated by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner configured in four cabins β business elite, business, premium economy and economy β underscoring the premium positioning Riyadh Air has adopted as it builds out its long-haul network. The carrier says the MumbaiβRiyadh route will also offer onward connectivity to Europe and the Middle East, catering to both business and leisure travelers flying to and from India.
With Mumbai on board, Riyadh Air's network now spans a handful of destinations, and the airline has signaled that more routes will be announced in the coming days and weeks. India is one of the largest and fastest-growing outbound travel markets in the world, and a daily link to Mumbai gives the young carrier immediate access to substantial point-to-point and connecting demand.
Riyadh Air was established as part of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund and its broader Vision 2030 strategy to turn the kingdom into a global aviation and tourism hub. The airline is designed from the ground up as a full-service, digitally focused operator, and it has been steadily rolling out route announcements as it moves from launch planning toward a full commercial network.
The Boeing 787-9 sits at the heart of that plan. A twin-engine, long-range widebody, the Dreamliner is well suited to routes like RiyadhβMumbai, where the carrier wants to combine competitive trip costs with a premium four-class passenger experience. Its range also makes it a flexible tool for opening thinner long-haul markets as Riyadh Air expands.
The Mumbai announcement fits a pattern of momentum for the carrier, which has been securing regulatory approvals and unveiling destinations across multiple regions as it scales up. Each new route adds feed to its Riyadh hub and strengthens the case for the connecting traffic the airline is counting on to fill its widebody cabins.
For travelers in India, the immediate benefit is a new daily option between Mumbai and Riyadh, backed by a modern Dreamliner and a four-cabin product, plus the prospect of smooth connections onward to Europe. With bookings now open and the first flights set for early August, Riyadh Air's India debut is one of the more closely watched moves in its ambitious launch campaign.
