Shenzhen Airlines is returning to the Indonesian market. As part of its Northern Winter 2026/27 season, the Star Alliance member has scheduled the resumption of service between Shenzhen (SZX) and Jakarta (CGK), with flights set to begin on October 19, 2026.
The carrier will operate the route on a daily basis using the Boeing 737-800, a workhorse narrowbody well suited to the medium-haul sector between southern China and the Indonesian capital. The reintroduction restores a link that Shenzhen Airlines last operated until May 2019.
According to the published timetable, flight ZH161 departs Shenzhen at 20:50 and arrives into Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport at 00:55 the following day. The return, ZH162, leaves Jakarta at 01:55 and touches back down in Shenzhen at 08:05. The overnight scheduling positions the service for onward connections at the Shenzhen hub.
The resumption is part of a broader recovery of Chinese carriers' international networks, with airlines steadily rebuilding routes to Southeast Asia that were suspended for an extended period. Indonesia, with its large population and strong trade and tourism ties to China, has been a natural focus for that expansion.
For Shenzhen Airlines, the daily frequency signals confidence in demand between the two cities. A daily operation is more attractive to business travellers and freight shippers than a limited weekly schedule, and it allows the airline to build a consistent presence in the market rather than testing the route with a handful of flights.
The Boeing 737-800 remains one of the most widely operated aircraft in the world and forms the backbone of many Chinese carriers' narrowbody fleets. Its range and capacity make it a practical choice for medium-haul international routes such as Shenzhen to Jakarta, where a widebody would be difficult to fill on a daily basis.
As a Star Alliance member, Shenzhen Airlines can also feed the restored Jakarta service with connecting traffic from its domestic network and from alliance partners, strengthening the commercial case for the route beyond point-to-point demand.
Travellers looking to fly the resumed service can expect it to appear in booking systems for departures from October 19, 2026, with the daily Boeing 737-800 rotation operating throughout the Northern Winter season.
