Thai Lion Air is stepping up its presence between Southeast Asia and Japan, filing plans to increase its Bangkok–Taipei–Osaka service to five weekly flights for the Northern Hemisphere winter 2026/27 season.
According to schedule data published by AeroRoutes, the low-cost carrier will operate the Bangkok Don Mueang – Taipei Taoyuan – Osaka Kansai routing five times per week from 25 October 2026, up from the current four weekly frequencies. The route is flown with the airline’s Boeing 737-900ER.
The itinerary keeps Taipei as an intermediate stop in both directions. Flight SL396 departs Bangkok Don Mueang at 03:00, arrives Taipei Taoyuan at 08:00, continues at 09:00 and reaches Osaka Kansai at 12:20. The return service, SL397, leaves Osaka at 13:40, calls at Taipei between 15:40 and 16:40, and lands back in Bangkok at 19:35.
The extra rotation points to steady demand on the one-stop link, which lets Thai Lion Air serve both the Taipei and Osaka markets on a single aircraft routing rather than dedicating separate frequencies to each city.
At the same time, the airline is trimming a parallel Japanese service. AeroRoutes reports that Thai Lion Air is reducing its Bangkok Don Mueang – Taipei Taoyuan – Tokyo Narita operation from six to five weekly flights, also effective 25 October 2026 — suggesting a modest reallocation of capacity between the carrier’s two Japanese gateways.
The Boeing 737-900ER is the largest member of the 737 Next Generation family, offering one of the highest seat counts in the series. That capacity gives low-cost operators attractive unit economics on medium-haul sectors such as the roughly five-hour hops that make up the Bangkok–Taipei–Japan corridor.
Thai Lion Air, part of the wider Lion Air Group, has built much of its international network around Don Mueang, Bangkok’s dedicated low-cost hub. Northern winter schedule filings such as this one are typically finalized in the weeks before the season begins, and further adjustments to frequencies or timings remain possible closer to the 25 October start date.
