United Airlines has again pushed back its planned return to Venezuela. Schedule filings reported by AeroRoutes on August 19, 2026 show the Star Alliance carrier has closed bookings on the Houston β Caracas route for the entire period from October 6, 2026 through January 11, 2027, moving the earliest reservable departure to January 12, 2027.
The filing describes a further revision to a resumption that had already been rescheduled, and AeroRoutes notes that additional changes remain highly possible. The date shown is the first day on which the route can be booked from the Houston end rather than a confirmed launch.
The filed schedule
As currently loaded, the service is a daily overnight operation. UA1046 departs Houston Intercontinental at 23:55 and arrives in Caracas at 06:30 the following morning. The return, UA1045, leaves Caracas at 09:00 and lands back in Houston at 12:35. Both legs are filed with equipment code 7M8, United's designator for the Boeing 737 MAX 8.
The timings are typical of a route built to feed a hub bank: an overnight southbound departure after the evening arrivals into Houston, and a late-morning return that connects into United's afternoon departures.
A resumption that keeps moving
Repeated date shifts of this kind are usually the visible end of commercial and regulatory groundwork that is not yet complete. Airlines will often keep a route loaded in the schedule while approvals, handling arrangements and demand assumptions are worked through, closing bookings in blocks as each intended start date passes without the pieces falling into place.
What is unusual here is the length of the block. Closing sales for more than three months at a stretch, rather than pushing the start by a few weeks, suggests United is not expecting the picture to resolve quickly. It also protects the airline from having to cancel and re-accommodate passengers who would otherwise have booked into a period it does not intend to fly.
Why the 737 MAX 8 fits
The aircraft choice is consistent with the mission. Houston β Caracas is a medium-haul international sector well within the range of a modern single-aisle, and the MAX 8 gives United a way to restart a market at modest capacity rather than committing a widebody to demand that has yet to be proven. If the route establishes itself, frequency or gauge can be adjusted later; if it does not, the exposure is limited.
Treat the date as provisional
The practical takeaway for travellers is that January 12, 2027 is the earliest date currently available for sale, not a guarantee. AeroRoutes explicitly flags that the schedule may move again, and the route's recent history supports that caution. Anyone planning around the service should watch for further filings before making firm arrangements.
