Air Tahiti Nui Expands Qantas Codeshare In 2026

Air Tahiti Nui has broadened its partnership with Qantas, placing its code on a series of the Australian carrier's domestic flights radiating from Sydney since late July 2026.

According to AeroRoutes, the expanded codeshare now covers Qantas-operated services between Sydney and Adelaide, Brisbane, Coolangatta (Gold Coast), Melbourne and Perth. On these sectors the flights are marketed under the Air Tahiti Nui code but flown by Qantas, giving the French Polynesian flag carrier a far deeper reach into the Australian domestic market than it could offer on its own metal.

For a boutique long-haul airline the size of Air Tahiti Nui, codeshares are a crucial commercial tool. The Papeete-based carrier operates a compact fleet of Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners — its "Tahitian Dreamliner" aircraft — linking the islands of French Polynesia with a small number of long-haul gateways. Partnerships with larger networks allow it to sell single-ticket itineraries well beyond those gateways without having to operate the connecting domestic legs itself.

The tie-up with Qantas is a natural fit. By adding its code to domestic flights connecting through Sydney, Air Tahiti Nui can offer travellers coordinated schedules, through-checked baggage and a single booking to major Australian cities including Adelaide, the Gold Coast, Melbourne and Perth. That kind of seamless connectivity is increasingly what leisure passengers expect when planning a trip to or from the South Pacific.

Australia is an important market for French Polynesia's tourism-driven economy, and deeper distribution through one of the region's largest carriers helps Air Tahiti Nui compete for those travellers. It also strengthens the value of the airline's frequent-flyer and partnership arrangements, letting it present a more complete network map to agents and corporate buyers.

The Boeing 787-9 sits at the heart of that strategy. The type's range and efficiency have allowed Air Tahiti Nui to modernise its long-haul flying and standardise on a single widebody, while codeshare feed of the kind now expanded with Qantas maximises the number of city pairs the airline can sell over its limited number of frequencies.

Codeshare adjustments of this nature rarely make headlines on their own, but they are the connective tissue of modern airline networks. For Air Tahiti Nui, extending its Qantas relationship deeper into Australia's domestic map is a low-cost, high-value way to keep its Tahitian Dreamliners full and its network reach punching well above the airline's modest size.
