Alaska Airlines Adds Everett–San Jose and Bigger Jets at Paine Field in 2027

Alaska Airlines will add a new route between Everett's Paine Field and San Jose, California, and put larger jets and more flights on several other Paine Field routes in the first half of 2027, according to schedule filings reported by AeroRoutes on 6 October 2026. The airline first announced plans to expand at the Everett airport, north of Seattle, last month; the filings now show how that growth will be rolled out.

New Everett–San Jose service

The new route between Everett (PAE) and San Jose (SJC) is scheduled to start on 14 April 2027 with two daily flights. They will be operated by Horizon Air with Embraer E175 regional jets. According to the filed schedule, AS2374 leaves Everett at 08:20 and arrives in San Jose at 10:32, and AS2375 departs Everett at 14:05, reaching San Jose at 16:16. In the other direction, AS2376 leaves San Jose at 11:15 and lands at Paine Field at 13:23, while AS2377 departs San Jose at 17:00 and arrives in Everett at 19:06.

The timings give Silicon Valley travellers a choice of a midday or evening flight to the north Puget Sound region, and Everett-area travellers a morning or afternoon departure to the Bay Area.

Bigger jets on existing routes

Alaska is also upgauging several Paine Field routes with mainline Boeing 737-900ER aircraft. From 18 March 2027, Everett–Los Angeles will be operated twice daily with the 737-900ER. Today the route is flown once a day with a 737-900ER and once a day with an E175, so the change replaces the regional jet with a second mainline flight.

Everett–Portland will grow from one to two daily flights from 14 April 2027, with the 737-900ER on the route. On Everett–San Diego, the 737-900ER will replace the E175 on the single daily flight between 11 February and 12 May 2027. AeroRoutes notes that Alaska has been filing the 737-900ER for San Diego flights on and after 13 May 2027 as well.

What changes at Paine Field

Taken together, the moves add a new destination, add frequency to Portland and swap regional jets for larger Boeing aircraft on the Los Angeles and San Diego routes. That means more seats at Paine Field during the first half of 2027, both through extra flights and through bigger aircraft on existing ones.

Paine Field gives Alaska a second airport in the Seattle area, closer to the communities north of the city than Seattle-Tacoma International. For travellers in Snohomish County and further north, it can mean a shorter drive to the airport, and the extra mainline flights make the airport more useful for trips along the West Coast.

Part of a wider network push

The Everett plans come as Alaska expands its network on several fronts. The airline has laid out ambitions to grow long-haul flying from its Seattle hub and has been deepening its partnership with American Airlines, while it continues to adjust its West Coast schedule. Adding capacity at Paine Field lets Alaska grow in the Seattle area without putting all of the new flying through Seattle-Tacoma.

For San Jose, the new link adds a nonstop to the north Puget Sound region and gives Alaska more presence in the Bay Area, while Everett gains a nonstop link to Silicon Valley, which AeroRoutes lists as a new route for Alaska.

Subject to change

The details come from the airline's schedule filings, and planned operations can still change before the routes start. Travellers planning trips for spring 2027 should check the airline's booking channels for the latest timings and aircraft.
