Condor said on September 25, 2026, that British investment firm Attestor has exercised its option on the airline's remaining forty-nine percent stake, with full ownership scheduled to complete on August 31, 2027. The German leisure carrier described the move as a reorganization of its shareholder structure and the end of an extraordinary chapter that began after the collapse of former parent Thomas Cook and the COVID-19 rescue period.
According to Condor's statement, after the airline repaid state aid in spring 2026, the forty-nine percent holding previously owned by SG Luftfahrtgesellschaft on behalf of the Federal Republic of Germany and the State of Hesse will be restructured into Attestor's hands under the option timetable. Attestor became a long-term Condor investor in 2021 and has held rights to acquire the residual state stake since that agreement.
Industry reports in July 2026 already floated Attestor's intention to exercise the option and possibly sell a minority slice to a larger airline later. The September 25 confirmation locks a calendar date—August 31, 2027—around which fleet, labor and partnership planning can now orbit. AeroTime noted Condor's own fleet at fifty-five aircraft plus seventeen wet-lease frames, including eighteen Airbus A330neos, twelve A321-200s, nine A321neos, nine A320-200s and seven A320neos, with just under forty additional aircraft still due for delivery.
That A330neo-heavy long-haul core is central to Condor's leisure franchise from Frankfurt and other German gateways. Clarity on ownership reduces the chance that residual state shareholders would slow cabin or fleet decisions through 2027, even if day-to-day flying continues under the current bridge structure until the August closing.
For passengers, the ownership endgame does not change next week's timetable, but it clarifies who will own the A330neo-centered long-haul product through the rest of the decade. For German policymakers, the August 2027 completion marks an exit from the hybrid state-investor structure that stabilized Condor after Thomas Cook. For Attestor, it converts a call option into a dated closing for one hundred percent control.
Attestor's 2021 entry came with turnaround capital and a long-dated option structure precisely so the German state could exit once Condor repaid rescue support. The September 25 statement is the contractual exercise of that path, not a sudden change of strategy, and the August 2027 date gives labor groups and lessors a fixed waypoint for talks.
Condor's recent network pruning—including winter cuts on Berlin and Stuttgart flights to Dubai—shows the carrier is already reshaping capacity under tighter ownership economics. Unless the parties amend the timetable, August 31, 2027, is now the public milestone for Attestor's full Condor ownership. Until that closing, the airline continues to fly its mixed Airbus narrowbody and A330neo fleet under the current shareholder bridge.
