Delta Air Lines is adding more than 45 round-trip flights and about 6,000 seats out of Boston Logan International Airport for the 2027 Patriots' Day and school spring break period, including a brand-new seasonal link to Destin-Fort Walton Beach on Florida's Gulf Coast. The airline says its featured leisure routes from Boston will carry 15% more seats than during the comparable 2026 holiday period.
Ten busy days in April
Patriots' Day is a Massachusetts holiday held on the third Monday of April, which in 2027 falls on April 19. It is also Marathon Monday, and it lines up with a school vacation week that many New England families use for a first warm-weather trip of the year. Delta said on 9 October that it will run additional service from Boston over 10 days around the holiday and spring break, with the heaviest flying planned for two peak windows: April 16 to 18 and April 22 to 25, 2027.
The airline, which calls itself the number one airline in Boston, said the expanded schedule builds on strong demand it has already seen for the period. The extra capacity is spread across Florida, the Southeast, the Gulf Coast, the Caribbean and Mexico rather than concentrated on one or two routes.
Florida and the Southeast
Orlando gets the deepest schedule, with up to 35 flights per week including seven additional weekly flights. Fort Myers and Jacksonville will each see up to 21 weekly flights; Fort Myers gains seven extra weekly flights, while Jacksonville adds one holiday-period flight. Sarasota will have up to 14 weekly flights including seven additional holiday-period flights, which Delta says gives travelers another option for Florida's Gulf Coast.
In the Carolinas and Georgia, Charleston and Savannah will each run up to 14 flights per week, both with five additional holiday-period flights. Myrtle Beach goes to up to five weekly flights, including three extra holiday-period departures. Panama City, Florida, receives four additional holiday-period flights.
A new Gulf Coast option
The only route that is completely new in the package is Boston to Destin-Fort Walton Beach, which Delta will operate as a holiday service with four flights during the period.
New Orleans is not getting more frequencies, but Delta will put a larger aircraft on select high-demand holiday flights, adding seats without adding departures.
Caribbean and Mexico
Delta is also adding capacity to island and beach markets that are traditional spring break favorites:
- Aruba: up to 12 flights per week, including five additional weekly flights
- San Juan, Puerto Rico: up to eight weekly flights, including an additional Saturday frequency
- Punta Cana, Dominican Republic: up to eight weekly flights, including an additional Saturday frequency
- Cancun, Mexico: up to eight weekly flights, including an additional Saturday frequency
- Nassau, Bahamas: up to five weekly flights, with service expanded to include Sundays
- Providenciales, Turks and Caicos: up to two weekly flights, including an additional Saturday frequency
Delta noted that the frequencies represent its planned peak Patriots' Day schedule and remain subject to change.
Why Boston matters to Delta
Boston has become one of Delta's most important coastal gateways, and the airline competes there with several large carriers for both business and leisure travelers. Holiday peaks are one of the clearest places where an airline can add flying profitably: demand is concentrated, fares tend to be firm, and the extra trips can be scheduled around aircraft that would otherwise sit at quieter times.
By publishing the spring 2027 schedule six months in advance, Delta also gives families planning around the school calendar a long booking window. For Boston travelers, the practical result is more nonstop choice to warm-weather destinations during one of the busiest leisure weeks of the year, plus a first nonstop option to the Florida Panhandle's Destin-Fort Walton Beach.
