Delta Ends Boston-Honolulu Service On January 5 2027

Delta Air Lines will end Boston–Honolulu flying on 5 January 2027, a spokesperson told Simple Flying, truncating a winter service that had been planned through the end of March. “Delta routinely evaluates and adjusts our network to best meet customer demand. As a result, Delta will end service between Boston (BOS) and Honolulu (HNL) effective Jan. 5, 2027. We apologize for any inconvenience and will contact impacted customers directly with alternate travel options,” the carrier said in comments published on 31 August 2026.

Simple Flying, updating a report that day, said the Boston–Honolulu hop had been framed as a roughly four-month operation from mid-December 2026 until the end of March 2027. Beat of Hawaii, cited in the same piece, reported that bookings could no longer be made after 3 January. Simple Flying did not publish a first-flight date more precise than “mid-December,” and this article does not invent one. The 5 January end date is the only stop date Delta put on the record in the 31 August statement.

The route is one of the longest scheduled domestic sectors in the United States. Simple Flying put the great-circle distance at 5,095 miles (8,200 km) and the block time at nearly 12 hours. It said Delta’s aircraft of choice for the winter revival is “reportedly” the Airbus A330; the spokesperson comment did not name a type. This article therefore treats the A330 as Simple Flying’s reported equipment, not as a Delta confirmation, and does not assign a seat count.

Hawaiian Airlines first established Boston–Honolulu in 2019, Simple Flying wrote, and Delta competed on the city pair in 2024 before both carriers suspended it in 2025. The 2026–27 return was presented as a limited seasonal restart. Amy Martin, Delta’s vice president of network planning, was quoted in the earlier relaunch announcement as saying Hawaii plays an important role in the airline’s long-haul leisure network; that remark belongs to the restart, not to the 31 August cut.

Simple Flying noted that Delta did not issue a standalone network press release for the trim. The change was first spotted in booking data and then confirmed by the spokesperson. Fuel-price commentary in the same article is presented as industry context, not as a cause Delta named on 31 August. Travellers already holding Boston–Honolulu tickets after 5 January 2027 should wait for the re-accommodation Delta said it would offer.

Any illustration with this story is an original scene of an Airbus A330 in Delta colours, not a photograph of a specific Boston or Honolulu departure, and it is not proof of a registration or of a January flight already airborne. Simple Flying still listed Delta among operators of other long domestic Hawaii routes from Atlanta, Detroit and New York; those city pairs were not cancelled in the 31 August statement.
