Delta Targets First Airbus A350-1000 for June 2027

Delta Air Lines is targeting June 2027 for the entry into service of its first Airbus A350-1000, the largest member of the A350 family and the airline's next long-haul flagship. The milestone would mark the first time Delta operates the stretched variant of the twin-engine widebody.

Delta placed an order for 20 A350-1000s in 2024, adding the largest A350 to a fleet that already flies the smaller A350-900 on many of the carrier's premium intercontinental routes. The bigger jet gives Delta more seats, additional cargo capacity and a longer fuselage without moving away from the A350 family it already knows well.

According to the plan reported by Simple Flying, Delta has settled on a 314-seat layout for the aircraft. That cabin is weighted heavily toward the front, with 53 Delta One suites, 48 Premium Select seats and 213 seats split across Main Cabin and Comfort+. The configuration prioritizes premium capacity and passenger comfort over squeezing in the maximum number of seats.

The A350-1000 pairs a longer fuselage with a range of roughly 8,700 nautical miles (about 16,100 kilometers), enough to link Delta's US hubs with distant markets across Asia, the Middle East and the southern hemisphere. Power comes from Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, the same family that drives the A350-900.

For Delta, the type is expected to anchor the top of its long-haul network, complementing the A350-900 and the airline's Airbus A330neo fleet. The larger cabin is well suited to high-demand, premium-heavy routes where the extra business-class and premium-economy capacity can be filled year round.

With the first aircraft still around two years away, exact routes have not been finalized, and delivery timelines for new widebodies can shift. Even so, the June 2027 target gives a clear signal of when travelers can expect to see Delta's newest flagship enter revenue service.
