Edelweiss Puts A340 On Zurich-Tenerife In October 2026

Edelweiss Air plans to operate the Airbus A340-300 on Zurich–Tenerife South on Mondays from 5 October to 19 October 2026, AeroRoutes reported on 31 August 2026, while the airline continues to list one daily flight on the Canary Islands route overall.

The Monday widebody pair is WK214, also numbered LX8214, leaving Zurich at 08:15 and arriving Tenerife South at 11:50, and WK215/LX8215 leaving Tenerife South at 13:10 and arriving Zurich at 18:25. AeroRoutes codes those sectors as A340-300. The site did not list which aircraft cover the other six days of the week, and it did not publish a seat count, a cabin layout or a registration for the A340 on this route. Those details are therefore omitted.

The same filing places an A340-300 on Zurich–Ponta Delgada on Monday 21 September 2026. That Azores trip is a one-date note in the 31 August report, separate from the three October Mondays to Tenerife. AeroRoutes did not say whether the Tenerife A340 is a substitute for a delayed narrowbody, a seasonal heavy on school-holiday traffic, or a one-off pattern tied to the Ponta Delgada trip. This article does not choose among those explanations.

Edelweiss, the leisure arm of the Lufthansa Group, has long used A340-300s on thinner long-thin leisure routes. Tenerife South is a classic winter-sun market from Zurich. Putting four engines on a route that is otherwise daily suggests a short burst of extra seats or a specific airframe that needs hours, but those readings are not in the AeroRoutes file and are not assumed here. The dual WK/LX flight numbers show the service is sold in both Edelweiss and Swiss channels; AeroRoutes listed both, and both are reported.

The A340-300 is a four-engine, single-deck Airbus with wingtip fences, not an A350, A330 or A380. Readers should not treat the October Mondays as a conversion of the entire Tenerife schedule to the type. AeroRoutes said Edelweiss “overall operates 1 daily flight” on Zurich–Tenerife South; only the Monday operations between 5 and 19 October are identified as A340-300. Three Mondays in that window are 5, 12 and 19 October 2026 if the file is read as written.

Leisure equipment swaps of this kind often last a few weeks and then disappear from later filings. Anyone booked on WK214 or WK215 in those October weeks should check the operating type close to departure. AeroRoutes’ source is the schedule database as of 31 August 2026, 07:00 Pacific / 14:00 GMT. No Edelweiss press release is cited because none was used.

Zurich–Tenerife South is a roughly four-hour sector in the printed times: 08:15 to 11:50 outbound and 13:10 to 18:25 inbound. Those clock times are in AeroRoutes; this article does not convert them into a great-circle distance or a fuel burn. An A340-300 on that length of sector is unusual compared with an A320-family or A330 leisure jet, which is why the Monday equipment note is news, and why it is limited to the three October dates named in the file.

Edelweiss titles and a red tail with a white edelweiss flower are the livery lock for any original illustration. The airframe must read as a four-engine A340, not a two-engine A330 with extra pylons. No registration is given in the source, so none is shown. The Ponta Delgada Monday on 21 September is mentioned only because AeroRoutes put it in the same item; it is not a second Tenerife date.
