Gulf Air is returning to Malaysia, with the Bahraini flag carrier scheduling new nonstop service between Bahrain and Kuala Lumpur from late September 2026. The airline will launch the route on 29 September using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner equipment.
According to the published schedule, Gulf Air will operate the Bahrain–Kuala Lumpur service up to five times weekly between 29 September and 23 October, before settling into a three-times-weekly pattern from 8 October. From 25 October, the operation changes shape, running as a one-stop Bahrain–Singapore–Kuala Lumpur service on a daily basis.
The flights are numbered GF165 and GF166. The routing gives Gulf Air a presence in two key Southeast Asian markets on the same rotation once the Singapore stop is added, blending point-to-point Malaysian demand with connecting traffic through Bahrain.
The Boeing 787-9 is well suited to the mission, offering the range and efficiency for long, thin intercontinental sectors while carrying a competitive premium cabin. For Gulf Air, the Dreamliner has become the backbone of its long-haul network as the carrier focuses on quality over sheer size.
Kuala Lumpur is a well-established long-haul market served by several Gulf and Asian carriers, and Gulf Air’s return adds another one-stop option between Southeast Asia and Europe via its Bahrain hub. The evolution from a nonstop launch to a Singapore-linked routing suggests the airline is optimising the schedule around demand as the service matures.
