IndiGo is opening a new international route from one of India's most distinctive airports. The Indian low-cost carrier has opened reservations for twice-weekly flights between Gaya and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, launching at the start of the Northern winter 2026/27 season.
Airbus A320neo aircraft will serve the route from 26 October 2026. According to the published schedule, 6E1083 departs Gaya at 13:15 and arrives in Bangkok at 17:50, while the return 6E1084 leaves Bangkok at 10:15 and lands in Gaya at 12:15.
A route built around pilgrimage traffic
Gaya is not a conventional Indian secondary city airport. It sits in Bihar and serves Bodh Gaya, the site where the Buddha is traditionally held to have attained enlightenment, making it one of the most significant Buddhist pilgrimage destinations in the world. That gives the airport an unusual traffic profile, with international demand concentrated in seasonal flows from Buddhist-majority countries across Southeast and East Asia.
Bangkok is a logical fit for that demand. Thailand's capital is both a large origin market in its own right and one of the busiest connecting hubs in the region, giving pilgrims from across Southeast Asia a one-stop path to Bodh Gaya rather than a longer routing via Delhi or Kolkata.
Narrowbody reach and IndiGo's international push
The Airbus A320neo is well matched to the sector. The narrowbody single-aisle twin, with its large upswept sharklets and new-generation engines, offers the range and operating economics to make a roughly four-hour international route work from a smaller airport where demand cannot support widebody equipment.
The addition also fits IndiGo's steady expansion beyond India's borders. The carrier has spent recent seasons layering international destinations onto its enormous domestic narrowbody network, using the A320neo family to reach markets across the Gulf, Central Asia and Southeast Asia. Adding a Thai destination from a Bihar airport rather than a metro hub reflects how deep that strategy now runs.
Twice-weekly frequency is a conservative start, which is typical for a seasonal pilgrimage market. It allows the airline to test demand across the winter season without committing significant aircraft time, and frequency can be adjusted if bookings support it.
Reservations are already open, with the first flight scheduled for 26 October 2026. As with all newly filed schedules, timings remain subject to change before departure.
