Qatar Airways Suspends 13 Destinations For Winter 2026

Qatar Airways has confirmed that 13 destinations served from its Doha Hamad International Airport (DOH) hub will remain suspended, with flights that had been pencilled in to resume in September now pushed back to at least March 2027 β€” if they return at all. The move is the latest in a series of capacity reductions at the Gulf carrier.

According to schedule data reported by Simple Flying and AeroRoutes, the airline has removed a further 2.4% of its planned flights from Doha across the September 2026 to February 2027 window. That may sound modest, but it comes on top of earlier cuts: compared with the same period a year earlier, Qatar Airways' Doha offering is now down by roughly 6.9%.

The 13 suspended destinations

The affected routes are Djibouti (which continues onward to Mogadishu), Gassim, Hamburg, Istanbul Sabiha Gâkçen, Kano, Malta, Mogadishu, Neom Bay, Sofia, Tabuk, Taif, Venice and Yanbu. Seven of them — Gassim, Istanbul Sabiha Gâkçen, Malta, Neom Bay, Tabuk, Taif and Yanbu — are now tentatively scheduled to return at the end of March or in early April 2027, when Northern Hemisphere carriers switch to their summer schedules. Several were operated with the 132-seat Airbus A320ceo, the carrier's lowest-capacity aircraft.

The remaining six routes are more striking: Qatar Airways currently has no flights scheduled at all to Hamburg, Sofia and Venice, to Kano, or on the Djibouti–Mogadishu pairing. Hamburg, which the airline only began serving in 2024 with a daily Boeing 787-8, last saw a Qatar Airways flight in March, and it is unclear if or when service will resume.

A wider network reshuffle

The suspensions are part of a broader rebalancing rather than an across-the-board retreat. Some markets are seeing sharp reductions in the 2026–27 schedule β€” including Syria (-44%), Hungary (-43%), Romania (-40%), Serbia (-39%), Denmark (-36%), Oman (-29%), Poland (-29%) and Norway (-24%) β€” while the airline has stopped flying to Bosnia and Herzegovina entirely.

At the same time, Qatar Airways is expanding elsewhere. Capacity is rising to Algeria (+57%), Japan (+46%), Russia (+43%), Egypt (+35%), China (+19%), Canada (+18%) and Bangladesh (+15%), and the carrier is preparing to launch new services to Colombia and Venezuela while returning to Finland and Sudan.

As always with schedule filings, the picture is subject to change, and Qatar Airways has not said the 13 suspended destinations are being permanently dropped. For now, though, travellers hoping to fly to any of them from Doha this winter will need to look for alternatives.
