Southwest Unveils New Routes For Spring 2027

Southwest Airlines has unveiled a fresh wave of new routes, with most set to begin in early 2027, as the carrier leans further into leisure markets and builds toward a record presence in Las Vegas.

At the core of the announcement are nine new routes launching in early 2027, including one international service. Eight of the new domestic routes are due to begin on February 13, 2027, and four of those go head-to-head with ultra-low-cost rival Breeze Airways — a sign of how directly Southwest is now competing for leisure travellers in smaller markets.

Among the additions are two first-time nonstop pairings that stand out. Southwest will connect Nashville with Liberia in Costa Rica, opening up a Central American leisure destination from its growing Tennessee operation, and it will link Columbus, Ohio with San Juan, Puerto Rico, giving Midwestern flyers a direct path to the Caribbean.

Las Vegas is the centrepiece of the expansion. By spring 2027, Southwest plans to add new service between Las Vegas and 10 additional airports, pushing its daily departure count in the city to a record high. The milestone lands in the airline’s 45th year of serving Las Vegas, one of its most important and long-standing markets.

Many of the new routes are aimed squarely at popular leisure destinations and will be flown once weekly, with Saturday-only service. That pattern lets Southwest test demand in seasonal markets and add breadth to its map without committing scarce daily aircraft time — a measured way to grow the network while keeping utilisation tight.

The expansion continues Southwest’s strategy of chasing sun-and-leisure demand with its all-Boeing 737 fleet, even as the carrier navigates a broader shake-up of its commercial model. Adding weekly seasonal flying and leaning on strongholds such as Las Vegas gives the airline room to grow revenue in markets where demand peaks at weekends and around holidays, while keeping a close eye on where low-cost competitors are pushing in.

The full schedule, including the early-2027 domestic launches and the international addition, is now loading into Southwest’s booking system, giving travellers a first look at where the airline plans to fly as it heads deeper into the decade. For a carrier that has spent much of the past year refining its network and product, the spring 2027 rollout is a clear statement that leisure growth remains firmly at the centre of its plans.
