Air India has overhauled its flagship link between India and Canada, launching nonstop Delhi–Toronto flights and introducing a brand-new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on the route from 1 August 2026.
Until now, the Delhi–Toronto service required an enroute technical stop in Vienna. By removing that stop — subject to available airspace — Air India says it will cut journey time by nearly three hours, bringing the Delhi-to-Toronto flight down from around 20 hours to roughly 17 hours nonstop.
The upgraded route also gains frequency and a better onboard product. Air India is increasing Delhi–Toronto to a daily operation, up from five weekly flights, and deploying its newest Boeing 787-9 featuring redesigned cabins. For the first time, the route offers a dedicated Premium Economy cabin alongside refreshed Business and Economy interiors.
Air India is also opening a second Canadian gateway from western India. A new seasonal nonstop between Mumbai and Toronto will operate three times weekly from 25 October 2026 through 26 March 2027, making Air India the only carrier offering direct flights between the two cities.
Taken together, the moves significantly deepen Air India's Canada presence. During the 2026-27 winter schedule the airline plans 20 weekly flights between Canada and India, comprising 10 weekly flights between Toronto and Delhi, three between Toronto and Mumbai, and seven between Vancouver and Delhi. Air India says the additions lift capacity between the two countries by roughly 4,400 seats per month, with premium seating out of Toronto increasing by around 71% over the winter season.
The Boeing 787-9 sits at the heart of the upgrade. The long-range Dreamliner is well suited to thin but premium-heavy long-haul markets like India–Canada, and the newly configured interiors — including the addition of Premium Economy — are part of Air India's broader fleet-wide cabin renewal as the carrier modernises its widebody offering.
For the large Indian community across Ontario and the rest of Canada, faster nonstop flying and a second direct city pairing mark a meaningful improvement over the multi-stop itineraries that have long defined travel between the two countries.
