Ethiopian Airlines is stepping up its West Africa schedule, filing plans to grow its Addis Ababa–Accra service to 21 weekly flights from December 2026, up from the current 16.
The additional frequencies are due to take effect from 1 December 2026, lifting the route to close to three daily rotations between Ethiopian's Addis Ababa Bole hub and Kotoka International Airport in the Ghanaian capital. The schedule pairs widebody and narrowbody equipment, with Airbus A350-900 and A350-1000 aircraft operating alongside the Boeing 737 MAX 8 across the day's departures.
The upgauged timetable spreads services across morning, midday and evening banks in both directions, a pattern that supports onward connections over Addis Ababa to Ethiopian's wider long-haul network in Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas. Accra has long ranked among the busiest markets in West Africa, and the frequency increase reflects steady demand on the corridor.
Ethiopian is the largest airline in Africa by fleet and network, operating one of the youngest widebody fleets on the continent from its base in the Ethiopian capital. As a member of the Star Alliance, the carrier has built its growth around a hub-and-spoke model that funnels intra-African traffic through Addis Ababa and connects it to intercontinental services, and additional Accra flying adds capacity to one of the busier legs of that system.
Deploying the A350 family on some rotations gives Ethiopian more premium and belly-cargo capacity on the route, while the 737 MAX 8 offers a right-sized option on frequencies where a full widebody is not required. Blending the two aircraft types across the schedule lets the airline match capacity to demand through the day rather than committing a single type to every departure.
The Accra increase forms part of a broader set of West African schedule adjustments by Ethiopian heading into the Northern Hemisphere winter season, as the carrier fine-tunes frequencies across the region. For travellers, the move means more choice of departure times and additional connecting options over Addis Ababa in each direction from December.
