Eurowings Drops Stuttgart and Cologne Dubai Flights for Winter, Keeps Berlin Only

Eurowings is pulling two planned winter Dubai routes out of its schedule. According to aero.de on 13 October 2026, citing aeroTelegraph, the Lufthansa Group low-cost carrier will keep Berlin–Dubai for winter 2026/27 but has withdrawn the previously announced Stuttgart–Dubai and Cologne/Bonn–Dubai flights before they started.

Berlin stays; Stuttgart and Cologne do not

Eurowings told aeroTelegraph that tourist demand for Dubai on those two German cities is still too thin, and that the comparatively long sectors look weak against today’s jet-fuel bill. The airline will therefore fly Dubai in the coming winter “for now” only from Berlin. aero.de’s Düsseldorf-datelined report frames the move as a mid-course correction inside a broader Lufthansa Group Dubai rebuild.

Lufthansa itself had parked its own Dubai flying over the summer because of the war around the Persian Gulf. In September 2026 the group talked about reviving Dubai with as many as 36 weekly connections for winter 2026/27. Eurowings’ Stuttgart and Cologne lines were part of that rebound story; taking them back out leaves Berlin as the low-cost group’s sole German gateway to Dubai in the near term.

Fuel and leisure demand, not a safety grounding

The carrier’s explanation is commercial, not operational. There is no claim in the German reporting of an aircraft technical problem, a slot refusal at Dubai International, or a regulatory ban. Eurowings is simply declining to burn fuel on two long leisure thin routes where advance bookings have not filled the seats it had hoped to sell.

That matters for travellers who may already have seen Stuttgart–Dubai or Cologne–Dubai in earlier winter timetable marketing. Anyone holding a booking on those city pairs should check directly with Eurowings or the agent of record: a route that never enters revenue service is usually re-accommodated or refunded under the airline’s disruption rules, but the public reports do not publish a passenger-by-passenger remediation script.

What remains open

Berlin–Dubai continues in the winter plan described by aero.de. Whether Lufthansa mainline restores more of its own Dubai frequencies, and whether Eurowings later reinstates Stuttgart or Cologne for summer 2027, are separate questions the 13 October reports do not answer. The verified cut is narrow: two Eurowings Dubai spokes cancelled before launch; one Berlin spoke kept; rationale given as soft tourism demand and high fuel costs on long thin flying.

For the German leisure market, the message is that Dubai is back on the Lufthansa Group map — just not from every city that appeared in September’s optimistic grid.

German leisure demand for the Gulf has been uneven since the regional security shocks of 2026. Lufthansa Group’s September talk of up to 36 weekly Dubai connections looked ambitious once fuel prices stayed elevated and advance bookings for secondary cities lagged. Eurowings’ decision to protect Berlin while shelving Stuttgart and Cologne is a classic hub-and-spoke triage: keep the densest German catchment, cut the thin ends before they burn cash.

aero.de’s report does not publish revised weekly seat totals for the whole group Dubai grid, and it does not say whether Lufthansa mainline frequencies will rise to offset the Eurowings cuts. Readers should treat the story as a Eurowings-specific rollback, not a full group retreat from Dubai. Berlin remains in; Stuttgart and Cologne/Bonn are out for winter 2026/27 unless a later filing reverses today’s cut.
