Finnish Carrier Reconnects Nordic Region with Canada on A330 Widebody
Finnair officially relaunched direct service between Helsinki-Vantaa Airport and Toronto Pearson International Airport on May 4, 2026, ending an 11-year absence from the Canadian market. The airline last operated the route during the summer of 2015 before pulling back to focus on its core Asian and European network.
The new service operates three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays using Airbus A330-300 aircraft configured with 279 seats across three cabins. Passengers can choose from 28 business class seats featuring a no-recline design, 21 premium economy seats, and 230 economy seats. The route will run seasonally through August 29, 2026, with potential for year-round service if demand warrants it.
Toronto becomes Finnair's sixth North American destination, joining Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles, New York JFK, and Seattle in the carrier's transatlantic portfolio. For Canadian travelers, the route provides convenient one-stop connections via Helsinki to dozens of destinations across Scandinavia, the Baltics, and Asia β markets where Finnair has traditionally been strong thanks to its geographic position on the shortest routing between Europe and the Far East.
The relaunch comes at a time of booming transatlantic demand. Multiple carriers have added new routes between North America and Europe for the 2026 summer season, reflecting pent-up travel demand and strong premium cabin bookings. Finnair's return to Toronto positions Finland as an accessible destination for the large Finnish-Canadian diaspora while offering competitive connection times to Asian cities like Tokyo, Shanghai, and Delhi.
