Xiamen Airlines is putting more capacity back into Canada. At the start of the 2026/27 northern winter season the carrier plans to expand its Xiamen β Vancouver service, restoring a third weekly flight from 28 October 2026.
The additional rotation is served with the Boeing 787-9 and operates on Wednesdays from Xiamen, returning on Thursdays from Vancouver. Filed schedules show MF805 departing Xiamen at 22:40 and arriving in Vancouver at 18:40, operating on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The return, MF806, leaves Vancouver at 01:40 and reaches Xiamen at 06:00 the following day, operating Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
A 787 route rebuilding frequency
The Boeing 787-9 is the aircraft that made this kind of route viable in the first place. As a twin-engine widebody with a twin-aisle cabin, chevron-edged engine nacelles and long raked wingtips, it is sized to fly thin ultra-long trans-Pacific sectors profitably at frequencies that a larger four-engine type could never sustain.
Xiamen to Vancouver is one of the longer nonstops in the carrierβs network, crossing the Pacific from Chinaβs southeastern coast to Canadaβs west coast. Stepping from two weekly flights to three is a meaningful change on a route of that length: it moves the service from a twice-weekly pattern that constrains itinerary options to something closer to an every-other-day rhythm, which is far more usable for both leisure and connecting traffic.
Trans-Pacific capacity returns in stages
The word in the filing is βrestorationβ rather than launch, and that framing matters. China β North America capacity has been rebuilding gradually, with carriers on both sides adding frequencies back to pre-existing routes rather than opening new city pairs. Each additional weekly rotation represents a bet that demand has recovered enough to fill a widebody on a sector where the aircraft is committed for the better part of two days.
Vancouver has long been one of the stronger Canadian gateways for Chinese carriers, thanks to a large origin-and-destination market and its position as the shortest great-circle crossing from East Asia to North America. Xiamen Airlines uses the route to link its home base with the Canadian west coast and to feed onward traffic through Xiamen into its domestic and regional network.
The third weekly frequency takes effect with the start of the northern winter season on 28 October 2026. Whether it stays at three weekly into the following summer will depend on how the winter loads perform, but adding capacity into the traditionally weaker winter months is generally a sign of confidence in the underlying market.
