Emirates is moving into the next phase of its multi-year fleet retrofit programme, targeting 111 widebodies for cabin overhauls that will significantly upgrade the in-flight experience for millions of long-haul passengers. The work covers 60 Airbus A380 superjumbos and 51 Boeing 777s, with intensive activity scheduled to ramp up from August 2026 at the airline's Dubai engineering centre.
Background
The retrofit introduces new-generation seating influenced by the Safran-built cabin already installed on the airline's growing Airbus A350 fleet, with refined leather upholstery, expanded personal storage, multiple charging ports and integrated wireless charging on side tables. Aircraft passing through the programme also receive Panasonic's latest Astrova in-flight entertainment platform with 4K screens, plus Starlink high-speed Wi-Fi capable of streaming-grade speeds across every cabin from first class to economy.
What's Next
The investment reinforces Emirates' position as an upgrade-driven flag carrier rather than a fleet-replacement operator, extending the useful life of its A380 superjumbos and 777-300ERs into the 2030s. For passengers, the rollout is one of the largest cabin standardisation efforts ever attempted at a single airline, narrowing the experience gap between Dubai's older widebodies and the airline's newest deliveries while keeping pressure on rivals such as Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines.
