Thai Vietjet Launches Daily Bangkok–Kuala Lumpur Flights With Boeing 737-8s

Vietjet Thailand has begun daily flights between Bangkok Suvarnabhumi and Kuala Lumpur, opening its first direct route to Malaysia on October 9. Bernama reported from the inaugural ceremony in Bangkok, while the Tourism Authority of Thailand welcomed the first Kuala Lumpur–Bangkok arrival. The start of flying turns an earlier route plan into an operating service. (Bernama, Tourism Authority of Thailand)

The Kuala Lumpur end uses Terminal 2 at Kuala Lumpur International Airport. In an account published October 12, the Royal Thai Embassy in Malaysia independently documented its ambassador’s attendance at the launch there on October 9, alongside airline, airport and tourism representatives. Daily service on the Boeing 737-8

TAT’s published timetable has flight VZ680 leaving Bangkok at 11:00 and arriving in Kuala Lumpur at 14:10. VZ681 departs Kuala Lumpur at 15:15 and reaches Suvarnabhumi at 16:30. Both directions operate daily with 189-seat Boeing 737-8 aircraft. Times are local; passengers should check their individual booking for the final schedule. (Tourism Authority of Thailand)

At that stated frequency and aircraft configuration, the route offers a scheduled 1,323 seats each way per week, calculated as seven departures multiplied by 189 seats. That is offered capacity, not a passenger forecast or evidence of how many travellers will use the service. Aircraft substitutions or timetable changes would alter the total. A first step into Malaysia

Bhubet Kittiyanpanya, the airline’s deputy head of commercial, told Bernama during the Bangkok ceremony that the carrier had considered the route for about five years. He described Kuala Lumpur as a starting point for its Malaysian expansion and said future increases in frequency would depend on demand. Other Malaysian destinations remain possibilities rather than announced routes. (Bernama)

Bernama also spoke with Malaysia’s ambassador to Thailand, Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah, who officiated at the Bangkok event. He said the new service would support tourism promotion and give travellers more flexibility. The report identified Malaysian diplomatic and tourism representatives at the ceremony, including a deputy chief of mission travelling on the inaugural flight. (Bernama)

Welcome events at both ends

In Kuala Lumpur, Thai ambassador Lada Phumas met executives from Tourism Malaysia and Malaysia Airports during the launch. The embassy’s account says more than 100 invited guests and media representatives attended. She encouraged the airline to consider more frequencies and additional Thai destinations, including secondary cities, as part of closer tourism and business links between the two countries. The embassy also described support for a familiarisation visit by Malaysian media and influencers scheduled for October 12–16. Its itinerary includes Bangkok, Samut Songkhram and Nakhon Pathom. That promotional work accompanies the new route; it does not represent another flight launch or an expansion of the daily timetable. (Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur)

For passengers, the confirmed change is a new daily low-cost option linking Kuala Lumpur Terminal 2 with Suvarnabhumi. The important distinction when choosing flights is the Bangkok airport: this service uses Suvarnabhumi. The airline’s next step in Malaysia will depend on demand, with no additional city or higher frequency confirmed in the launch reporting. (Bernama, Tourism Authority of Thailand)
