JTA Doubles Okinawa-Taipei Flights From September 2026

Japan TransOcean Air (JTA) is doubling its Okinawa-Taipei Taoyuan service, adding a second daily rotation from 24 September 2026 with the Boeing 737-800.

According to schedule data published by AeroRoutes, the expansion begins as a selective operation before settling into a full daily pattern. The second daily flight is scheduled on 24, 25, 27 and 28 September 2026, and again on 9, 11 and 12 October 2026, before becoming a daily operation from 24 October 2026.

The schedule for the 1 December 2026 to 31 January 2027 period shows the pattern in full. NU301 departs Okinawa at 08:30 and arrives at Taipei Taoyuan at 09:15, with NU307 following at 17:55 and arriving at 18:40. Northbound, NU302 leaves Taoyuan at 10:15 and reaches Okinawa at 12:45, while NU308 departs at 19:40 for a 22:10 arrival. All four rotations are listed as daily with the 737-800.

A short hop with outsized strategic value

Okinawa sits closer to Taipei than it does to Tokyo, and the sector is one of the shortest international routes in the Japanese network. That geography is precisely why the route matters. Taiwanese visitors are among the most important inbound markets for Okinawa's tourism economy, and a second daily frequency gives travellers a genuine choice of a morning or evening departure in each direction rather than a single fixed option. For short international sectors, frequency is usually a stronger driver of demand than aircraft size, because it converts a route from something a traveller has to plan around into something that fits an existing itinerary.

The evening rotation is particularly useful for weekend traffic in both directions, allowing a full day at either end before travelling. The morning pair, meanwhile, supports day-trip and business use as well as onward connections within Japan from Naha.

JTA and the 737-800

Japan TransOcean Air is the Okinawa-based subsidiary of Japan Airlines and operates a fleet built around the Boeing 737-800, a single-aisle twinjet with two CFM56 engines and blended winglets. The type is well matched to JTA's mission profile: a network of short island sectors within the Ryukyu chain plus short international hops, flown with high daily utilisation. The 737-800's range comfortably exceeds anything the Okinawa-Taipei sector demands, which means the aircraft can turn quickly and operate multiple rotations across a day.

Airlines routinely adjust filings before a season is locked in, so the pattern published today may still be refined. As loaded, however, the schedule points to JTA running Okinawa-Taipei Taoyuan at twice daily from late October 2026.
