Starlux Schedules Kaohsiung-Kobe Launch For Jan 2027

Starlux Airlines has filed an operational schedule for a new Kaohsiung – Kobe route, with service listed to commence on 1 January 2027 at the earliest. The filing was lodged on Monday 17 August 2026 and reported by AeroRoutes the same day.

The route is planned as a daily operation in both directions. Flight JX360 is scheduled to depart Kaohsiung at 08:25 and arrive at Kobe at 12:15. The return, JX361, leaves Kobe at 13:15 and lands back in Kaohsiung at 16:00.

Reservations for the route are expected to open soon, according to the filing.

A second Taiwanese gateway to Kansai

The timings describe a clean single-aircraft day trip. An 08:25 departure puts the aircraft on the ground in Japan around midday, with a turn of roughly an hour before the afternoon sector home. That pattern lets one airframe cover the whole rotation and be back at base the same evening β€” an efficient use of a narrowbody, and a structure that suits a leisure and short-break market where passengers value a full day at either end.

Kobe Airport sits on an artificial island in Osaka Bay and has historically operated as a domestic-focused facility within the Kansai region, alongside the larger Kansai International and Osaka Itami. Its international scheduled activity is a comparatively recent development, which makes each new foreign carrier filing there more consequential than the raw frequency count suggests.

Aircraft listed, but not locked

AeroRoutes lists both flights with the schedule code 32Q, which corresponds to the Airbus A321neo. That equipment assignment should be read with the usual caution: schedule codes filed more than four months ahead of launch are planning entries, and the aircraft actually assigned on day one can differ from the one filed in August.

The single-aisle listing is nonetheless consistent with the mission. Kaohsiung to Kobe is a short regional sector well within narrowbody range, and deploying a widebody on it would be difficult to justify on a daily basis in the route's first year.

Building out from the south

The filing is also notable for its origin airport. Kaohsiung, in southern Taiwan, is the country's second city and has spent years in the shadow of Taipei's Taoyuan hub for international connectivity. Routes filed from Kaohsiung rather than Taipei represent an attempt to serve southern Taiwanese demand directly instead of routing it north over land first.

Japan remains one of the most heavily contested leisure markets in East Asia, and Taiwan – Japan traffic in particular has been among the region's most resilient. A secondary-city pair like Kaohsiung – Kobe sidesteps the most congested airport pairings entirely, trading raw market size for less competition and easier slot access.

What happens next

The immediate milestone to watch is the opening of reservations, which the filing describes as imminent. Until seats go on sale, a filed schedule remains a statement of planning intent rather than a commercial commitment; carriers routinely adjust launch dates, timings and equipment between filing and first flight.

For now, the entry stands as a dated, specific plan: two daily flights, a 1 January 2027 target, and a new international link between southern Taiwan and the Kansai region.
