Cebu Pacific Adds Starlink Wi-Fi To Its Fleet In 2027

Cebu Pacific announced on 14 July 2026 that it will install SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet system across its aircraft, making it the first low-cost carrier in Southeast Asia to offer the service. The rollout is expected to begin in 2027.

Starlink uses a constellation of satellites in low Earth orbit to deliver high-speed, low-latency connectivity - a fundamentally different architecture from the geostationary satellite systems that have powered most inflight Wi-Fi to date, and the reason airlines adopting it are able to promise a genuinely ground-like experience rather than a throttled, pay-per-megabyte one. Onboard, Cebu Pacific says the system is designed to support streaming, online gaming and video calls.

The airline also expects the technology to pay off outside the cabin. Cebu Pacific said Starlink will improve connectivity for its flight crews and operational teams, which it believes could help streamline day-to-day operations - a benefit that has become a common secondary justification for these installations, since a connected aircraft can move maintenance data, crew updates and turnaround information in real time.

Part of a much larger Indigo Partners bet

Cebu Pacific's move is not a standalone decision. It is part of a coordinated push across the airlines in the Indigo Partners investment portfolio. Alongside Cebu Pacific, Frontier Airlines in the United States, Wizz Air in Europe, Volaris in Mexico and JetSMART in South America all plan to install Starlink across their fleets, with the group aiming to equip more than 1,000 aircraft in total.

That makes it one of the largest commitments any airline group has made to next-generation inflight Wi-Fi. Bill Franke, managing partner of Indigo Partners, said the goal is to give passengers across the five carriers dependable, fast internet access as part of their overall flying experience.

The scale matters commercially. Connectivity hardware is expensive to certify and install on a per-aircraft basis, and low-cost carriers have historically been the last to adopt it precisely because the economics are unforgiving at low fares. Negotiating as a five-airline bloc covering more than a thousand aircraft changes that calculation considerably.

A budget airline that no longer wants to feel like one

For Cebu Pacific specifically, Starlink fits into a broader effort to modernise what passengers get on board while keeping fares low. Xander Lao, the airline's president and chief commercial officer, said the update reflects a shift in what travellers now expect from air travel, noting that staying connected has become less of a luxury and more of a standard expectation. He added that the airline intends to keep its focus on affordability even as it introduces new technology like Starlink.

Cebu Pacific has built its business over nearly three decades on a low-fare model. It currently operates a fleet of 100 aircraft - one of the youngest in the world - serving 35 domestic and 26 international destinations across Asia, Australia and the Middle East. The carrier says it has flown more than 250 million passengers since it began operations in 1996.

The announcement adds to a fast-growing trend of airlines worldwide investing in satellite-based Wi-Fi as a way to differentiate their product and meet rising passenger expectations - increasingly including budget carriers traditionally known for stripped-down cabins. The competitive question for Cebu Pacific's rivals in Southeast Asia is now a simple one: how long they can hold out before matching it.
