Discover Airlines Adds First UK Routes For 2027

Discover Airlines is entering the British market for the first time. The Lufthansa Group leisure carrier will launch Airbus A320 services to Bristol, Glasgow and Inverness in the summer 2027 season, marking its debut on UK routes since the airline was created as Eurowings Discover and later rebranded.

All three new destinations will be served from Frankfurt, and with the launch Discover will become the only airline offering nonstop flights from Frankfurt to Bristol, Glasgow and Inverness. That is a notable position for a leisure-focused operator: rather than competing head-on with established trunk routes, the airline is opening city pairs that currently require a connection.

Alongside the Frankfurt flying, Discover will also connect Munich with Glasgow, taking over a route previously operated by Lufthansa itself. That handover is characteristic of how the Lufthansa Group has used Discover since its founding: transferring leisure-weighted routes from the mainline brand to a lower-cost platform better suited to seasonal demand, while keeping the traffic inside the group's network.

Inverness is the most eye-catching of the three. The Highlands airport is a classic seasonal leisure market, drawing visitors to the Scottish Highlands, Loch Ness and the whisky trail during the summer months, and it has historically depended on UK domestic services and a handful of European links. A nonstop from Frankfurt gives the region direct access to one of Europe's largest hubs, and by extension to Lufthansa Group connections beyond it.

Bristol and Glasgow are larger markets but no less strategic. Bristol serves the west of England and south Wales, a catchment that frequently drives to London airports for long-haul connections. Glasgow, meanwhile, gains a second German link under the new plan, with Frankfurt and Munich both on the map for the summer 2027 season.

The aircraft of choice is the Airbus A320. Discover operates a mixed fleet of A320-family narrowbodies for short and medium-haul flying alongside widebodies used on long-haul leisure routes, and the A320 is a natural fit for routes of this length and seasonal profile. It offers enough capacity to make a daily or near-daily operation viable in peak season without the risk of a larger aircraft in the shoulder months.

For the UK airports involved, the announcement is a straightforward win. Frankfurt is one of Europe's principal connecting hubs, and a nonstop from a regional UK airport into it opens up onward itineraries across Lufthansa Group's global network. For Discover, the UK represents a sizeable outbound leisure market as well as inbound tourism traffic into Germany and beyond.

The services are due to begin with the summer 2027 season, giving the airline and the airports involved more than a year to build distribution ahead of the launch. Detailed schedules and frequencies for each route have not yet been published.
