TUI Airways Adds Gatwick Flights to Athens, Djerba, Palermo and Tangier for Summer 2027

TUI Airways has filed five additional London Gatwick routes for Northern summer 2027 beyond the Spanish destinations AeroRoutes reported last week, according to schedule data published on October 14, 2026. The UK leisure carrier plans new Gatwick links to Athens, Djerba, Mytilene, Palermo and Tangier, mostly on Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, filling out a broader Mediterranean and North African push for the summer season.

The five new city pairs

AeroRoutes lists London Gatwick–Athens from March 28, 2027, four times weekly on the 737 MAX 8. Gatwick–Mytilene, serving Lesbos, starts the same day twice weekly on the MAX 8. Gatwick–Palermo begins March 30, 2027, three times weekly on the MAX 8. Gatwick–Tangier also starts March 28, 2027, three times weekly on the MAX 8. Gatwick–Djerba returns May 3, 2027, twice weekly on a mix of 737-800 and MAX 8 aircraft; AeroRoutes notes TUI last served Djerba until October 2015.

Together with the earlier Spain package that added Santiago de Compostela, Seville and Valencia from Gatwick, the October 14 filing shows TUI Airways building a wider leisure web from its London base rather than a Spain-only summer add-on. The new set mixes mainland capitals, Greek islands, Sicily, Morocco and Tunisia in one leisure bank.

Why these markets

Athens and the Greek island of Mytilene deepen TUI's Aegean leisure offer from Gatwick. Palermo restores a Sicily link on the MAX 8. Tangier adds Morocco alongside existing North African flying, while Djerba brings back a Tunisian island resort that has been off the Gatwick map for more than a decade. Frequencies stay modestβ€”two to four weeklyβ€”typical of leisure schedule building where weekend and midweek holiday rotations matter more than daily business traffic.

Aircraft choice leans on the 737 MAX 8, with the classic 737-800 still in the mix on Djerba. That keeps the routes inside TUI Airways' narrowbody tour-operator model rather than shifting them onto the airline's Dreamliners, which stay on longer leisure sectors from the UK to long-haul sun destinations.

How it fits the summer 2027 file

Northern summer 2027 schedules are opening for sale across Europe as carriers lock in holiday capacity. TUI Airways' Gatwick additions sit in that wave: new sun and city leisure routes timed for the late-March season change, with Djerba staggered into early May when Tunisian resort demand ramps up. Exact block times and local airport partners were not in the AeroRoutes summary, which is based on schedule filings rather than a consumer press release.

For Gatwick passengers, the practical takeaway is five more TUI holiday nonstops on sale for summer 2027, including a long-absent Djerba return. For rivals on Athens, Sicily, Morocco and Tunisia leisure routes from London, the MAX 8 frequencies add another tour-operator competitor into the winter booking window as families lock next summer's holidays. Schedule filings can still change before tickets go on general sale, so travelers should confirm days of week and aircraft on TUI's booking site as the brochure firms up.
