Ryanair on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, unveiled its Winter 2026 schedule for Edinburgh Airport with 46 routes, including three new links to Milan, Tirana and Warsaw. The Irish low-cost carrier said the winter plan grows Edinburgh traffic by about 11% and rests on 11 based aircraft, a commitment it values at $1.1 billion and more than 1,700 local jobs.
Three new cities and thicker frequencies
Alongside Milan, Tirana and Warsaw, Ryanair will add flights on 13 existing Edinburgh routes. The airline highlighted winter-sun markets such as Barcelona, Madrid and Malaga and city-break destinations including Budapest, Krakow and Prague. To mark the schedule, it launched a limited seat sale with fares from Β£29.99 on its app and website.
Jade Kirwan, Ryanair's director of communications, said the schedule gives Scottish customers more low-fare choice for winter trips while supporting inbound tourism. Edinburgh Airport's head of aviation, Lynsey Burns, said the Milan, Tirana and Warsaw additions strengthen links with key European markets from Scotland's busiest airport and give passengers more reasons to travel even as the evenings draw in.
UK growth and the APD fight
Ryanair said it expects to carry 63 million passengers to and from the UK in 2026, calling itself the country's biggest passenger airline at almost double British Airways' UK traffic. Kirwan argued that further Edinburgh and UK growth is being held back by Air Passenger Duty, which rose to Β£15 per departing passenger from April 2025 and is due to rise again from April 2027. She said the tax makes UK regional airports less competitive against European destinations that are cutting aviation taxes and airport fees, and that abolishing APD altogether would cost about Β£2.5 billion a year while unlocking new routes and more visitors to the UK regions.
The Edinburgh winter package is a classic Ryanair base play: more aircraft on the ground, a thicker short-haul web, and pressure on government tax policy in the same press release. Passengers get three new nonstops and more seats on popular sun and city routes; the airline keeps the political message that UK growth depends on cheaper departure taxes if ministers want airlines to keep basing jets in Scotland.
What to watch next
Winter schedules typically start around the late-October IATA season change. Exact frequencies and aircraft types for the Milan, Tirana and Warsaw launches were not broken out in the corporate release, which focused on the 46-route total, the 11-aircraft base and the Β£29.99 sale. Travelers booking Edinburgh should confirm dates, days of week and airports of arrival on Ryanair.com as the winter file firms up, especially where Milan or Warsaw can mean more than one airport.
For Edinburgh Airport, the announcement continues Ryanair's role as a year-round traffic driver rather than a summer-only leisure carrier. For competitors on the ScotlandβItaly, ScotlandβAlbania and ScotlandβPoland corridors, three new Ryanair city pairs add price pressure just as the winter timetable locks in and families start booking Christmas and February half-term trips.
